Cashew Nuts come from ...... Cashew Fruit!
Who knew? .... certainly not I which explains my utter surprise when presented with 4 examples of the Cashew Fruit from the Cashew Tree. It looks quite similar to red and yellow pepper, hangs "upside down" presenting the nut (actually the seed) on the outside, in a hard casing... amazing!

People actually eat the fruit, I think it smells and tastes awful, but I am picky. Also, the casing surrounding the nut is poisonous so you have to cook it and then peel off the casing which by then is burnt. The fruit is called maraƱon.
