I live in Howard
As some of you already know. My Cousin and her family with whom I'm staying live in a house on the former American military base known then as Howard Field and still referred to as Howard. I wake each morning the sound of all manner of Tropical birds, and my 6.30 am, hour long walk/jog takes me past the now disused (but still maintained) airport and landing strip. Its not hard to imagine the thousands of servicemen and families who must have filed through the tiny airport building, not to mention CIA operatives in their black bomber jackets and aviator shades, flying in and out during their various counter insurgency missions and the "war on drugs". Howard was handed to the Panamanian government in 1999 and is now turned over to residencial use. It has just been given the go ahead to become a special economic zone by the Panamanian Government - and America's war has turned away from "drugs" (I think they lost that one) to "terror". which segues neatly back to my lightning, impromptu visit to NYC last week.
